I created this filter after thinking about the ability of video to capture and record the state of a system. Since video is just one perspective of an environment, it is missing information outside this perspective that influences what it is capturing. I wanted to enable video to express something from within itself that it wasn't necessarily seeing. Video Evolution uses an edge detection algorithm on a live video stream to find pixels that then feed into a pattern formation algorithm overlaid onto the video frame. As time goes on, new edge pixels alter and add to the pattern algorithm. However, after enough time has passed, the video becomes more and more static as specific patterns begin to dominate the pixel array.
